Short lines, high-quality service, clear agreements and insight into the financial figures. These are the values Clearwater Ship Management pursues 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Clearwater means ‘’clear and in the water’’, after all. ‘’With our dedicated employees and our beautiful fleet, we have been transporting oil and chemicals by sea for almost 25 years,’’ says Nathalie van der Meer. She is a QHSE & Vetting Officer at Clearwater for 10 years.
Nathalie works with the QHSE/Vetting team on certifications, conducts audits and writes new procedures. The shipping world is very dynamic. The rules and legislation surrounding the transport of oil and chemicals are subject to continuous change. Not a single day is the same. That makes my work so interesting and fun!
"The shipping world is very dynamic. Not a single day is the same. That makes my work so interesting and fun!"
Just like the shipping industry, Clearwater isn’t standing still. Our company has a rich history. In 1995, Rein Breijer, the father of the current Managing Director Mark Breijer, founded Clearwater, together with Theo Joosten, with the construction of our first tanker vessel: the Clearwater. He built this ship at the Breko Shipyard in Papendrecht. But it didn’t stop there. Two years later he launched the second ship: the Crystalwater. In the years that followed, we expanded to eight modern chemical tankers. Due to this growth, we first moved to Alblasserdam and at the end of 2016, we moved to Rotterdam. Since 2019 we are back on our ‘’home turf’’ in Papendrecht, where it all started, and will have our 25th anniversary in October 2020!
Currently we manage five oil/chemical tankers. Four of them are mostly sailing between north and southern Europe and one is sailing worldwide. Of course we are always excited to expand our fleet. On our website there is more detailed information about our fleet and certification available (ISO, ISM - Barbados flag, ISM - Dutch flag, SRPS).
Clearwater Ship Management could never have grown like this without its loyal employees. The people in the office, as well as the crew on the vessels, form a close family. We like to communicate openly and clearly, without barriers.
Nathalie: ‘’The crew members are away from home for an average of two months, which is a long time considering the amount of work that is done during the time on board. We regularly go on board to discuss matters and to ask whether everything is going well. We also, for example, know almost all crew members by their first name. This is not that common in the world of shipping. On board there is a hierarchy in rank, but the crew address each other in familiar terms. Employees at the office are also addressed this way. Thanks to this informal relationship, crew members like to come back to us after their contract. This way we build a healthy work relationship with each other and a lot of experience remains within the company, which benefits the quality of our services.
